Dalwhinnie Distillery

Built in 1897 Dalwhinnie is currently the highest distillery in Scotland. Set in a bleak, remote location it’s actually a very accessible distillery as it lies near the A9 which cuts a route from the lowlands to Inverness and beyond. The production process, the coldest of water, worm tubs and location combine to produce what’s known as the “gentle spirit”.

One of Dalwhinnie’s whisky expressions is Winter’s Gold. Unlike most single malt whisky, this is designed to be kept in the freezer and consumed very cold. They say it’s crafted by the cold with the source water often running into the distillery at very low temperatures. The distillery is Scotland’s highest and coldest. Winter’s Gold is often served in cold glasses and as the hand warms up the glass and whisky, the taste evolves.

Experiences include The Dalwhinnie Expressions Tour and Masterclass Experience (£45). A distillery tour followed by tasting of Dalwhinnie Expressions including a special release.  The whiskies are paired with chocolates. Duration 1 hour 15 minutes.

Dalwhinnie Distillery lies almost midway between Perth and Inverness.  Discover other distilleries using the distillery table, map and route.
